Conceptual Aspects of Creating the New Generation National Research Computer Network in the Russian Federation

The current status of the world's research and education networks is discussed, their key characteristics, functions and tasks are presented, a brief historical background and general information about the current level of development of research and education networks in Russia are given, the necessity of creating a unified research and education network in the country is substantiated with a conceptual presentation of its objectives and core functions taking into account national priorities in science and education, the consideration of the architectural components of the network and some of the expected results.
